The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will convene the 2026 National Capital Market Conference on October 19 in Abuja, where it is expected to unveil a new 10-year capital market blueprint and a National Savings Scheme aimed at boosting savings, investment and economic growth.
The conference, scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, will bring together public and private sector stakeholders to discuss strategies for deepening Nigeria’s capital market, improving domestic resource mobilisation and expanding investor participation.
A major highlight of the event will be the launch of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 (NCMMP 2.0), a decade-long strategy to drive the growth and development of the country’s capital market, alongside the introduction of the National Savings Scheme.
SEC Director-General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, described the master plan as a key roadmap for measuring and guiding the market’s development over the next 10 years, noting that the endorsement of Vice-President Kashim Shettima would be significant to its implementation.
Agama said the National Savings Scheme is designed to promote financial inclusion by giving Nigerians across all income levels the opportunity to save and invest for the future, with tax incentives to encourage participation.
“The National Savings Scheme is principally an inclusion tool: every Nigerian is given the opportunity to save, and those savings will be invested for the future,” Agama said.
The SEC said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s fiscal policy reforms, including tax relief measures intended to increase disposable income for eligible citizens.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima is expected as Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, will serve as Chief Host.
The conference will also feature presentations from Capital Market Committee Technical Working Groups and the inauguration of the NCMMP 2.0 Project Steering Committee and the Capital Market Master Plan Implementation Committee.
