The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has completed the payment of outstanding arrears tied to the ₦32,000 pension increment for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), bringing the exercise to a close with a total disbursement of ₦1.73 billion.
PTAD in a statement issued early this week said 54,206 eligible pensioners received the final tranche of payments, marking full settlement of arrears arising from the increment approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), which took effect on July 29, 2024.
A breakdown of the payments showed that 25,804 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department received ₦825.7 million, while 28,402 beneficiaries under the Tertiary Education and Health Pension Department were paid ₦908.9 million, completing the 13 month arrears owed to both categories.
The arrears covered the period from August 2024 to August 2025, with PTAD having earlier settled 12 months of the outstanding payments in phases between December 2024 and December 2025 before concluding the process with the final instalment.
PTAD clarified that pensioners from institutions such as the Peoples Bank of Nigeria, NICON Insurance, NITEL and the Petroleum Training Institute are excluded from the increment, having already benefited from separate pension increases.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to efficient and transparent pension administration in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
