The Nigerian insurance industry is set for deeper regulatory and market reforms as the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) strengthen collaboration on key initiatives to improve the sector’s resilience and competitiveness.

The development followed a courtesy visit by the NIA leadership, led by its Chairman, Mrs Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, to NAICOM.

Discussions between both institutions centred on the implementation of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Agenda (NIIRA) 2025 and progress on the Risk-Based Capital (RBC) project, two initiatives expected to shape the future direction of the industry.

The engagement also focused on measures to strengthen market capacity, improve operational efficiency and deepen insurance penetration across the country.

Both organisations exchanged views on emerging developments and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening risk management practices and creating a more sustainable insurance market.

The collaboration comes as stakeholders seek to strengthen the capacity of the insurance industry, improve policyholder confidence and enhance its contribution to Nigeria’s economic development.

The NIA and NAICOM also emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between the regulator and industry operators in driving reforms and promoting financial stability.

The meeting underscored the need for closer industry-regulator cooperation to ensure that ongoing reforms translate into a stronger, more competitive and sustainable insurance sector.
