The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning conditions.

The disbursement, announced in a press statement by the Federal Ministry of Finance, covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with allocations earmarked for approved projects aimed at meeting critical institutional needs.

Universities received the largest share of the funding, with ₦28.5 billion allocated to 79 institutions.

Polytechnics received a combined ₦5.8 billion, while colleges of education were allocated ₦4.7 billion.

The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve facilities in public tertiary institutions and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The funding is expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence new projects or advance existing approved interventions targeting infrastructure gaps and other identified priorities.

The initiative comes amid continuing concerns about the state of infrastructure in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions, where inadequate facilities have remained a challenge to effective teaching, learning and research.

Through the intervention, the government seeks to strengthen the capacity of public institutions to provide a better learning environment for students and improve the quality of tertiary education.

The Federal Ministry of Finance also emphasised the importance of coordination with the Federal Ministry of Education and the beneficiary institutions to ensure that the funds are effectively deployed and translate into tangible improvements in educational infrastructure.

Effective implementation of the approved projects will be essential to ensuring that the intervention delivers its intended benefits across the institutions.

The ministry advised members of the public seeking information on the beneficiary institutions and their respective allocations to visit its official website at www.finance.gov.ng.
