Food prices across markets in northern Nigeria have continued to decline as farmers increase harvests.

New maize is in most markets, hence the drop in prices. For instance, maize sold this week in Kujama market, Kaduna state at 28,500 Naira per bag while in Taraba State Donga market to be precise it sold for 21,000 Naira. However Wukari market in same Taraba is selling a bag of maize for 65,000 Naira because the new yields have not permeated there.

100 tubers of yams go for 37,000 Naira in Wukari and 40,000 in Donga, both markets in Taraba.

Rice has dropped in Kujama market as a bag goes for 29,800 Naira but in Karu market, abuja, a bag still goes for 47,000 Naira, 46,000 Naira in Wukari and 40,000 Naira in Donga.

Beans remains the highest of the everyday food commodity in the country and this is because markets still have old stock as the yields for this year have not been harvested. It is going for 75,000 Naira (iron beans) in Kujama, 70,000 Naira in Karu market and 78,000 in Donga market.

Other commodities include soya beans, 28,500 Naira in Kujama; Egusi, 50,000 Naira in Donga; millet, 65,000 Naira in Wukari and 76,000 Naira in Karu; cassava flour, 20,000 Naira in Donga and local chicken goes for 3,500 Naira in same market.
