The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, has commended female staff of the Commission for their contributions to the development of Nigeria’s capital market, reaffirming management’s commitment to supporting and empowering women within the organisation.
Agama made the remarks on Monday during an event organised by the Commission to mark International Women’s Day in Abuja, where women were celebrated for their role in national development and the workplace.
Speaking at the event, Agama said the theme for this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” reflects the value created through contribution, mentorship and inclusion.
“The women at the SEC have given their intellect, resilience, and foresight to navigate economic shifts and regulate with a steady hand. In doing so, they have helped us achieve a market that is more robust, transparent, and inclusive,” he said.
He noted that women across different levels of the Commission have played a critical role in strengthening the capital market, adding that their dedication, professionalism and commitment remain vital to the institution’s success.
Agama stressed that the Commission remains committed to creating an enabling environment that allows women to thrive, noting that empowering women is essential for building stronger institutions and achieving sustainable development.
“Women have shown remarkable energy, commitment, and professionalism in the workplace,” he said, adding that their contributions form a key part of the Commission’s achievements.
In her remarks, Executive Commissioner Legal and Enforcement at the Commission, Ms. Frana Chukwuogor, urged Nigerians, particularly women, to avoid illegal investment schemes commonly known as Ponzi schemes.
She said, “We want to use this opportunity to remind Nigerians not to patronize illegal operators otherwise known as Ponzi schemes, we are over 400 in this hall, if every one of us takes it’s as a responsibility to report these people we would be doing our country and ourselves a big favour.
“Watch out and report these schemes, we have various products available in the capital market for investment; Nigerians do not need to patronize these illegal schemes,” she added.
Chukwuogor also commended female staff of the Commission for their contributions to capital market development.
The event formed part of activities by the Commission to celebrate women and recognise their role in advancing the Nigerian capital market.
