The leadership of the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN) has called for enhanced professional training, stronger market compliance and greater collaboration within the insurance industry during a courtesy visit to the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The ILAN delegation, led by its President, Pastor Ikechukwu Udobi, visited the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, to express appreciation to the Commission for the recent revision of the Loss Adjusters’ Scale of Fees.

Speaking during the visit, Udobi described the review of the fee structure as a major milestone for the profession, noting that it would help revitalise the practice of loss adjusting after years of stagnation.

He also stressed the need for enhanced training and continuous capacity-building programmes for loss adjusters, particularly in specialised areas such as energy, oil and gas, and special risks, to enable Nigerian practitioners compete at international standards.

Udobi further advocated stronger collaboration between foreign and Nigerian loss adjusters to promote knowledge-sharing and support the development of the industry.

The ILAN President also called for strict compliance with existing laws, regulations and market guidelines, urging NAICOM to ensure that all operators adhere to statutory requirements in their operations.

He also appealed to the Commission to support the Institute in securing a befitting secretariat to strengthen its administrative capacity.

Responding, Omosehin welcomed the ILAN delegation and commended the Institute for its commitment to the development of the insurance industry.

He reiterated NAICOM’s commitment to supporting all segments of the insurance sector as part of the Commission’s ongoing transformation agenda.

Omosehin emphasised the need for professionalism and ethical conduct in the discharge of loss adjusting responsibilities, noting that adjusters play a critical role in bridging policyholders’ expectations with their satisfaction.

He also stressed the importance of strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics for Loss Adjusters to enhance credibility and improve the quality of practice within the profession.
