As you are reading this, the statistics are changing quite quickly, and we are very often left with just believing them without verification.
Population, traffic, products, climate, crimes, events, results, headlines, investments, and fashions among countless human endeavours continue changing, and the only reason we believe is because the mainstream media report it.
Questions like “Where did you hear it?” “Who said it?” These are the common prompts that take us to where our believability gets charged, and we allow ourselves to go on.
Would you, therefore, believe it if I told you that:
• Your favourite Entertainer will not step on any global stage to perform except the event is insured;
• Your favourite airline will not be authorised to fly except the aircraft is insured;
• Your favourite holiday resort or hospitality place will not be permitted to operate except if it has insurance to protect visitors;
• Your favourite payments app will not function continuously except its platform has been insured;
• Your favourite car-sharing service provider will not operate except it is fully insured;
• Your favourite football team will not participate in pursuing continental victory except it has insurance in place;
• Your A-rated and favourite doctor will not provide medical services except if he or she has insurance coverage against professional misconduct or omission;
• Your multimillion building construction contract will not take off except if you have insurance against accidents or deaths that may occur on site;
• Your dream project will receive expedited approval from international investors if you have insurance in place; and
• Several Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) have been determined by the state of insurance of the domestic markets!
I can keep mentioning activities and situations that insurance has impacted over the years and will continue to impact as we change our expectations and incur risks emerging from innovative technologies.
Let me add that the Federal Government of Nigeria is committed by bilateral and multilateral agreements to insure and actually do insure their assets and projects, same as multinationals.
If the insurance coverages indicated in the above cases are provided by today’s insurers, why are Nigerians persistently hesitant in believing and actually taking advantage of insurance?
Some have said it is fear of yesterday, and while I may agree with them, I care even more about the heightened costs of repairs and replacements today when accidents or incidents occur.
The way out is insurance. Insurance is real!
